First Look: Taylormade R11 irons

Taylormade has unvelied their new Best Price R11 Irons. The irons "are engineered for the player who appreciates the shape and refinement of a tour-grade iron but needs the help of advanced technology to launch the ball high, straight and long with less effort, regardless of handicap." Basically they're a GI iron without the oversized GI look.
I do have to admit, they're very nice looking irons and there's certainly a market for GI irons that don't look like GI irons. More pics, pricing/availability info, and the launch video after the break.
The TaylorMade R11 Irons are offered in four shaft flexes - S, R, M, L. Ladies' flex shafts will be offered in the 5-iron through pitching wedge, attack wedge and sand wedge. The standard R11 set includes eight irons offered at a street price of $799 with steel shafts in the irons and $999 with graphite shafts in the irons. The steel offering will be the KBS 90, while the graphite offering will be the Motore 75 S, 65 R, 55 M, 50 L. Men's irons are equipped with Tour Velvet grips, ladies with Winn grips).
TaylorMade's new R11 irons (available in September) are disciples of both the Burner 2.0 and Tour Preferred irons.
The one-piece stainless steel cast heads boast a thin, lightweight face design like the Burner 2.0. The weight removed from the clubface has been shifted low and back to create a higher launch angle, faster ball speed, increased distance and more forgiveness. The result is comparable launch, ball flight and length to the Burner 2.0, as well as 15-yard distance gaps between clubs. (Company testing with low handicappers indicates that the R11 and Burner 2.0 4-irons produce identical carry distance; the R11 6-iron is 1 yard shorter than Burner 2.0.)
The "Precision Weight Port" system (a plug similar to those found in Tour Preferred irons) is used in the TaylorMade R11 Irons to dial in desired head weights and swing weights, and to ensure each club's center of gravity is in line with the sweet spot. The fixed (red) plugs--2.5 to 17 grams--are made of aluminum, steel or tungsten and can not be adjusted by consumers.
In addition, a light and lively face combines with "inverted cone technology" to deliver more consistent ball speeds and forgiveness on mis-hits. At impact, the TaylorMade R11 Irons feels and sounds more muted (quieter) than the loud-ish Burner 2.0 because the R11's clubface is slightly thicker in the impact zone and where it connects to the sole.
Lastly, the R11's short irons have a shallow undercut channel between the face and rear to control feel and CG location, the mid-irons have a moderate undercut, and the long irons have a progressively larger undercut that pulls weight farther back from the face for added forgiveness.

Review of TaylorMade R11 Irons

At long last TaylorMade finally unveiled their TaylorMade R11 irons. TaylorMade's latest expansion to the overwhelmingly popular R11 line was to create an iron set that was engineered for players who appreciate the shape and refinement of a tour-grade iron but need the help of technology to launch the ball high, straight, and long with less effort, regardless of handicap. Already tested as a forgiving and easy to hit club. The TaylorMade R11 irons are definitely not blades or a set of tour only clubs. Designed with more forgiveness in mind they appeal to a much larger audience. On the heels of Ping's big announcement for their new clubs for next season I'm sure was no coincidence.

Taylormade Ready to Launch Their R11 Golf Irons

Building on the success of the popular R11 series of golf drivers and fairway woods, Taylormade are set to launch their much anticipated R11 irons as the latest addition to their high end golf equipment range. Due to hit the shelves on the 1st of September, 2011, sales for the new Taylormade R11 irons are already looking good with pre-release orders already 'going through the roof'. It looks like the reputation of the R11 woods and drivers is having a positive effect on this latest addition to the range.

The technology behind these new golf irons starts at the first point of human contact where the hard wearing and high performance velvet grips used on the R11 driver is also present on this new iron. A light yet strong steel shaft connects the golfer to the hitting surface, and the R11 irons hitting surface is where Taylormade have really excelled themselves. Their passion for golf has enabled them to construct an iron with a heartbeat. No other golf club feels as empowering as the R11 woods and drivers, and the R11 iron is no exception.

The new R11 irons take full advantage of their ultra thin face which massively increases ball speed and distance whilst maintaining the level of unrivalled accuracy which Taylormade are famed for. Utilising their patented inverted cone technology on the face means the often disastrous off centre swipe is far more forgiving.

The sole of the new irons have been given the same attention to detail throughout the design process as the rest of the club. Regardless of whether the ball lies on the fairway, in the rough or on a track or pathway, launching the ball has never been more controlled. The engineered grooves on the face of the club are accurate to a fraction of a millimetre and give total control over spin in both fine and wet conditions thanks to another of the patented features which makes the new Taylormade R11 Irons stand out from the crowd.

Nobody designs golf equipment with the same love and passion as Taylormade. Throughout their history the company have never ceased to amaze and astound with their continually evolving range of golf clubs and accessories, and the new Taylormade R11 irons are no exception. They don't just make great golf clubs, they design a club that feels right, they engineer a sound which means business as the club launches the ball... and they've given the club a heart beat!

We Love The Perfect R11 Irons

The R11 has a much more traditional appearance. The strong-lofted SuperFast 2.0 is a multi-material iron with something of a futuristic look to it, whereas the R11 is a multi-material iron with a generous amount of technology wrapped in a more conventional package.

Most TaylorMade touring pros will continue to use Tour Preferred irons, although some are expected to play the R11, which fits neatly between the Tour Preferred and SuperFast 2.0.

The R11 is expected to appeal to golfers who want the look of a traditional iron but the performance advantages of a modern iron. The R11 is a thin-faced, finely weighted distance iron that just happens to look more like a classic iron.

The R11 irons feature a red weight port reminiscent of the red disc on R11 drivers. The weight port on the iron, though, serves a different function – not only does it insure a uniform swingweight, it is part of TaylorMade's system for locating the center of gravity in an exact position on each R11 iron.

With the R11, TaylorMade has paid particular attention to sound and vibration management. Sandwiched between the clubhead and an aluminum sound badge in the back cavity is a soft adhesive substance that absorbs unwanted vibration.

The company says the R11 feels "superbly soft." Many modern iron designs are known for their immaculate feel, and amateurs who shop for irons should make sure they match the feel (particularly on miss-hits) with their expectations.

The sole of the R11 is reasonably sharp, designed to enter and exit the turf without digging or bouncing. Nick Faldo was heavily involved in the design of the iron, and he focused on the sole as well as the top line.

Faldo wanted a multifunctional sole and a top line that blends into the hosel in a pleasing fashion. The long irons have wider soles to lower the CG for a higher launch.

Lofts on the R11 iron are slightly weaker than those of the SuperFast 2.0 but stronger than the Tour Preferred lofts.

Stock shafts will be the steel KBS 90 and the graphite Fujikura Motore (75S, 65R, 55M, 50L). The KBS 90 feels very stable but enables golfers to get the ball in air much easier than with most heavier steel shafts. As the different Motore shafts get lighter, they also get softer, so the R (regular) kicks the ball somewhat higher than the S (stiff).

The R11 irons will be available in a set of eight clubs, and consumers will have a choice. Most are expected to be 4-through-A (gap wedge), although a 5-through-S (sand wedge) configuration also can be purchased. A 3-iron is sold separately.

TaylorMade's R11 Line Clubs-R11 Driver, R11 Fairway, R11 Irons

Separated by a few months of product launches we intend to set the record straight that the R11 Fairway is just as amazing as the R11 driver. The Fairway features the same Flight Control Technology as the Driver which allows players to adjust each one of their shots. This means that the adjustable sole changes face and launche angles. The most eye catching part of this fairway is the impressive all white non glare clubhead finish. That's what's not as impressive the adjustability and versatility is what really distinguishes this clubs above the rest. With the ability to adjust the club to either a neutral or closed face allows golfers the unique ability to shape their shots.

The time has come where TaylorMade has finally unveiled and finished up their R11 line. With an incredibly popular TaylorMade R11 driver (highly anticipated) comes  the TaylorMade R11 Fairway Wood, and finally the Taylormade R11 Irons. After TaylorMade began selling white-headed Ghost putters, I figured it was just a matter of time before the concept spread to other clubs. That time has come. TaylorMade's Burner line of metalwoods for 2011 also will have white heads. If both the R11 and Burner show up dressed in white, it makes sense. White is cool in golf right now. So TaylorMade could become a show pony for white.

Riding on the success of their R11 driver, which has already claimed huge wins this season. The driver was most recently used in back-to-back wins Darren Clarke at the Open Championship and then Sean O'Hair and the RBC Canadian Open. Both used their favorite R11 driver to make it happen. Although the R11 line has received the most attention there has been just as many converts to the Burner SuperFast 2.0 line including PGA Players Jason Day and Y.E. Yang.

They basically put every type of new technology they could into these irons. Blending distance, forgiveness, easy launch, with a soft feel and sound for a solid hitting club. I like that they still have that classic look, great lines but you can definitely tell they have all the high-tech details.

We're not going to lie the fairway wood is just as impressive as the R11 driver. The adjustability is incredible, ball flights out of this world. If you are looking for a customizable fairway wood look no further.

With overwhelming support from fans and players TaylorMade has made quiet the name for their brand this season. Their 2011 R11 line is no disappointment to fans or players with exceptional reviews and over 33 victories worldwide in 2011.

Where to buy cheap TaylorMade R11 clubs?  I found a site price lower to $169 at this golf shop, except the golf clubs I mentioned above, they also supply r11 golf bag, taylormade rescue 11.  You can buy the compelete line products with big discount price, that's why I stronly recommend it.
